:coolnod: Okay, let's make 21st the tentative date.
What do you prefer to do? Macro, birding or landscape?
We could do both a bit of each, if you like; just means bringing 3 lenses.

I am a certified diver but no longer have my Sea & Sea camera so underwater photography is out indefinitely. Also, my widest is around the same as yours at 17mm but I can mount it on a film body.
Too bad you use a different system or I could share my telephoto lenses with you.;)

Will go for Macro & Landscape. I don't have Big Guns...haha.. I think that goes for Hugo too. Well, macro & landscape it will be but as I don't have a proper macro lens, I'll be shooting either with my "beercan" + extension tubes or reverse mounting my 50mm. I haven't done nature macros for quite a while so I'll need to check out if some old sites I used to frequent are still suitable. If you have any preference, pls let me know.

I think Wildlife photography to me is something rather complex. To fully capture e essemce of e moment when a tiger is chasing a deer.... e intensity.... e fear..... maybe that is why i really admire those photographers from National Geographic.... so Pro!!!

Opportunities in Singapore, are mostly birds and "tamer" wild life. One needs to make a trip overseas to get the big cats in action.
Even then, shooting a hunt needs a lot of preparation, practice and patience. A wildlife photography has to learn as much of the subject as possible especially its primary food, habitat and feeding habits. He has to be part naturalist. One also has to learn how to "hunt" the subject e.g. when and where to "stake out", how not to alarm or startle the subject, how not to interfere with nature taking its course etc. Only the best and seasoned photographers can spot a stalker and stalk it, then spot the targetted quaryy and predict where it will flee, get into position swiftly and silently to intercept and get a clear shot with good lighting of the hunt, charge/chase and take-down in progress. He needs good and fast equipment esp ultra-telephoto lenses and needs to be fit and agile to lug all that.
For this outing, I am planning something really simple - to shoot macro, probably insects like butterflies, dragonflies, spiders etc cum landscape instead. They can be just as interesting if one rises early before the sun warms the subject and it gets too active. Since you shoot close-ups, you would have macro lenses. Why not join us?

As the only person who joined me was more interested in birds than macro, changed the outing to bird shoot. I think he must have been most satisfied with the catch of the day especially since he used a prosumer and came along just for the experience and never expected to get within range of subjects like this purple heron which is the known to be shy of humans.

In the past, I could only catch sight of it in the tree tops from afar but last Sunday I found it amongst some low bushes and managed to get so near that its image filled my entire viewfinder as shown. Best of all, it stayed to pose for us whilst preening itself and I managed to capture almost 80 shots before we got tired of waiting for it to take flight and moved on.
