Hi, I am a newbie in this forum.
I took wedding photos. Good money but stressful. No screw up allowed. But hey, people paying you money for your hobby. Can use that to buy lens and upgrade camera. Good hor.

My dear friend, you say wrongly liao! Don't let your customer know this hor! They are paying you to work for the whole day but not for the hobby.
Wedding day photos are really really not an easy job compare to others event photography!

Omg. Pls don't think this way, think about it as a service to the Client which is the couple itself. Stressful i don't think so, yes there's should not be screw up thingy going on for wedding photographer as there won't be a retake.
And btw you're thinking of good money? 2k for a full wedding shoot with a 8x12 coffee table book, time spend for the DI and layout for the book, wouldn't it spend alot of time and effort. Do you know how much wedding photographers are paid in the states? it's 20 grand USD my friend. that is what i call good money.
that's is also the main issue that i'm not venturing into wedding photography, i do product shoot..

20k $ for wedding photography is really over the edge.
I paid something over 1000 € and got exceptionally good photos.
20k is a sum that should be considered by celebrities not ordinary people.
Before I hired my weeding photographer I requested a little test photo shooting to be really sure that she has all the skills that a decent wedding photographer should have.
Hiring wedding photographer should be done without emotional pressure. Think of it like hiring a service for your task not something ueber expensive. Don't pay for the photographer name, pay for results of the service. Only if you don't have to be rational in regard of finances.

Having a second backup photographer can be a great strategy. It means less moving around during ceremony and speeches, allows for one to capture the formal shots and the other to get candid shots. It also takes a little pressure off you being ‘the one’ to have to get every shot!

It could also mean dilution of earning as well. As the saying goes, more monks, less porridge.

Wedding Photography is not easy I must say. You need to be quick and observant. It's not like a product shoot, where you can place your soft box and adjust the lighting. I guess the most challenging part would be when the couples are marching in.

Once you get used to it, every step and procedure will come natural because you already know what to expect and how to do it right. Experience counts.
For beginners, I suggest they become an apprentice or assistant to a professional wedding photographer. At the same time, shoot their friends' or relatives' weddings (thus less stressful) and learn during the process.

can consider creating a 'must-have' shots. but don't limit yourself to those shots.
and yup, practice makes perfect. That's when the experience comes in and everything will come naturally.

Hi there,
A gentle reminder. True that wedding jobs are a form of good income but if you just go for the job for the sake of $$$ then I dont see why you should be in this line. This kind of mentality is no no :knock1: A good wedding photographer need not only need to have the basic skills (often needs upgrade time to time) and suitable equipment, but also shares the happy occassion with your clients and put their interests before any others during assignments.
Since I am into this profession, I will not allow personal feelings overcome my clients' interests and affecting the outcome of final product. There was a time, I am really low in morale, I stopped for the time being, explored something else and gotten back into the industry, even better.
I wouldnt say I produce the most beautiful shots nor am I successsful in this industry but I share the clients' worries and offer my 2 cents whenever he/she asks me to. And often, besides the final product given, I offer extra freebies, as part of good customers relations. Afterall, doing business is not a one time affair.
Cheers.

This is obviously not a hot topic, except for spammers who post generic messages and at the end put a link to some commercial sites. Not many wedding photographers here, at least not many wanting to discuss.
