Nikon, obviously realizing that many users of its previous flagship DSLR will be migrating to its successors, has made available 'Picture Controls' aiming to emulate the color reproduction of the D2X(s) on the new D3 and D300. There are three such controls, mirroring the original color modes I to III. These settings may be used as a base point to add further tweaks and should prove a major time-saver to photographers wishing to upgrade their camera bodies and continue with their existing workflow. The Picture Controls are available now via Nikon's website, links after the jump.

Pardon my ignorance... what is this "D2X mode"? Is it "special"? How useful is it? Sorry, have never used the D2X before...
Thanks for the advice...

What it's referring to is the output on the D2X to be simulated and reproduce it closest as possible on the D3/300. Every camera's output will be different, and normally once you own a particular body, your workflow will be very much customized to it. Everytime you change a body, you will spend some time adapting a more suitable workflow for your new camera body. This is a waste of time for people who depends on the products for their livelihood.
Even for D1X -> D2X, the output was quite different, what I did for the steps to PP D1X totally cannot be used on the D2X. Same for D100->D2X. And even D70 from D100. So everytime I work on different bodies, my image PP workflow needs to be different.
It's like a factory building cars, first they build a Corolla, next they want a Camry, QC, QA etc all has to be changed, it's like changing a production line.

Thanks for the advice. It is very informative...
Don't mind if I ask, what do you mean by "workflow" and "PP". Sorry, new to such terms.
Thanks.

Workflow is something that flows, from point A to point B or Point C depending on criterias:
Eg:
i) Wake up
ii) Brush teeth, bathe.
Need to go work?
iii) yes - change into work clothes
iii) no - change into casual clothes
iv) breakfast... etc
It's a sequential flow of events that happens based on certain criterias or in simpler terms a set of actions to be taken step by step for the a certain objective.
PP - short for Post-Processing.
