Hi Guys,
I have seen the above in some websites and my D300 manual. Is AF Fine Tuning necessary for lens? Why do we need to do so? What is the advantage of doing this? Sharper pictures?
Appreciate any advice.
Thanks.

AF tuning or aka calibration helps to bring out the best of the glass with the camera body it's to be attached to for use.
It's target is to align the light going through the barrel and hitting the sensor plane. You do get sharper images out of this.
To me it's not necessary unless it's very off, to which most of the time, hardly I find the default factory delivered lenses miss the QC mark. If all the lenses miss-AF on the body, then likely it's a AF issue on the body.
It's more of an optional correction (like LASIK) step rather than need-to-do step.
