Rounding out its point-and-shoot announcements for the day, Canon has unveiled three new PowerShot A-series digital cameras.

The Canon PowerShot A470 has a seven megapixel CCD imager coupled with a Canon-branded 3.4x optical zoom lens. Images are framed and reviewed on a 2.5" LCD display, with no form of optical viewfinder included in the Canon A470's design. Images and movies are stored on SD / MMC cards, with a 32MB MMC card in the product bundle. Power comes from two AA batteries, with single-use alkalines included. The Canon A470 will be available with gray, red, blue or orange accent panels, priced at about $130.

Next up is the Canon PowerShot A580, with an eight megapixel CCD imager and a Canon-branded 4x optical zoom lens. As with the A470, there's a 2.5" LCD display for image framing and reviewing, as well as SD / MMC card storage with a 32MB MMC+ card included in the bundle. The Canon A580 draws its power from AA batteries, with two AA alkaline disposables in the box. The Canon A580 will be available only in silver, priced at about $150.

Finally, the Canon PowerShot A590 IS is largely similar to the A580 model, but with the addition of optical image stabilization, aperture- and shutter-priority modes plus fully manual shooting, and an "Easy" mode which reduces complexity of the on-screen information overlay and disables all external controls except for the shutter button, flash button and zoom lever. Pricing for this model is set at $180, with gray being the only body color.

All three cameras will ship from March 2008.
