Hello, welcome to the forum.
First of all, maybe you would need to consider on the following issues:
1) Your budget
2) What is your photography area of interest? (Eg, sports, portraits, etc)
I like the clouds! If you could create a landscape (wide shot) of the sea plus cloud, it would look wonderful
Dont dive into splurging on a high end camera yet. Look at travel magazines, photo blogs, books, etc.. If you see what you like, try to make a picture of it with your phone camera. That is called framing & composition. Remind yourself your visual inputs must trigger an instinct to shoot whenever you see a possible nice picture. Then take a snap.
Dont despair.. You have to know what kinda pictures you love and work towards that. (ie people on the street, the seaside, handsome guys/pretty girls, etc). Go read one good (but thin) book on basics of photography. Once you think you know what you want, do research on your purchase based on your budget. Best to spend 70% of budget as you may have much more stuff to buy later on.
If all else seems too difficult after buying a camera, attend a course at SLCC on basics in photography. Learn from the instructors and members there.
But if you want to learn photography the tough way, get a $80 old film camera., shoot a roll a week and see what you get. That is, if you have already borrowed or bought a guide book.
Have fun!

Hi, sorry to tell you that all of your pics cannot make it! No subject and no composition. But is good that you post it here, so that other's can learn too!
For the camera, maybe you can try on Sony! Is value for money! A200, A300 or A700 if i'm not wrong!

Hello, welcome to the forum.
Won't repeat what the others have said about your pictures, but if you need a good book to start off learning from you can take a look at 'Understanding Exposure' by Bryan Peterson. You don't have to buy one. It's available in the National Library. If you wanna buy try 'Rice Ball' at funan, ground level. Good place for books/mags on photography.
Maybe after reading up you could try to join in shoots with like minded people and try to pick up more from there, but personally I feel nothing beats having somebody to just teach you the basics. Gets you on the right track from the start. The rest, is up to how your eyes, mind, heart and hands talk to each other :p

Hi there!
despite all the advice to go for courses ( oppps , not spam okie ) or get a good book on photograghy to read, I'd suggest to show this ne bie some really COOL photographs !!!
Let her copy all she wants ! =) then when she start with some serious photography, she will start to ask questions why she can't do this do that, how she can do it ... and then when she's ready and wants more theory she will LOOK for a good book or a course !!!
neLlieMirAnda, may I suggest you to check out flickr.com for a start, there are million of good photos there for you to drool upon. Sart with what others regard as a good photo, ask why and then start a hobby. Everything else will fall in place naturally. =)

Previously i post on the forum, how to go about choosing a cam base on another website call photo net. There are a lot of interesting article in it, read up and shoot, u learn from there instead of ppl tell u must do this and that.
http://www.sgshoot.com/forums/showthread.php?t=357
You can't learn from inside, Go out venture to the street to shoot. Then u learn. After taken the picture see what is wrong or rite from the settings. Do a research yourself on wat went wrong. If really hit the nail. then ask members to help you. We cant spoon feed u throughout ur learning. :victory:
this the link to Photography tips and techniques: articles and guides from Photo.net.
http://photo.net/learn
flickr.com u cant learn much there, u only see their works only.
Pbase forum is other good place to start with.
http://form.pbase.com/
If u need magazines got for those from UK and US they have learning tips in there too.
