Nikon siao liao... anyhow release new models and jumping the product line all around. D3 users going to bang balls, and D3 2nd hand price will soon be D2Xs 2nd hand price.

If D3X launches this year, then D700 going to bang balls and D3/D2 users are going to kill themselves.

once buy dun look back :grin:I don't, but for those who forked out $7K for the D3, is now stuck at selling no more than $5K for a 6months old set, and within a year, it will become $4K. Depreciation is too fast.

Canon doesn't even kill their own line of products like that. :coolnod:

I hope they release D3X asap. Was looking forward to it, but now I think better wait for them to have a proper road map. Marketing is aggressive, but fails to capture the people want to see the advertisement. Taglines still sucks and advertisements sucks too.

Hmmm...have you feedback to Nikon about this previously?

Most manufacturers are in the process of disintegrating their production cycle with more outsourcing. Hence, it cuts down their turnover time from R and D to production, down from the usual 3-4 years to merely 6 months to 2 years. It wont be surprising to see more and more fabulous products from the various brands being churned out as fast as they can, as more and more adopt the disintegrating approach.

However, I think the real battle is not in the DSLR range but rather in the prosumer and compact digicam segment. Any brand that does well there will be in a healthier position and certainly their DSLR users will benefit from their kind generosity when the brand is earning tons of money with leading market share.

An interesting and innovative marketing approach is the key to any success for the various brands. In the past few months, we have even seen some brands adopting the disruptive method for marketing when their products are unique and different in specification from others. Its indeed a testing time to see so many innovative marketing approach being adopted by the various brands (very good opportunity to evaluate and see what works and what doesnt). An example would be block booking of citylink space by Sony for 9 months so an integrated marketing campaign can be produced and they can better position Sony cameras/products during all PC/Com shows and major international events.

With the emergence of new media, several other brands have started sponsoring Bloggers (such as Fujifilms sponsor of Melissa Faith, Nikon's sponsor of pageant winner Clarissa and Genevieve Khoo). Samsung's announcement in their intention to become no 2 by 2010 and their sponsorship of FHM GND with heavy usage of online media has shown the way and emerging trends to come in the next few years.

Maybe its time to see more photographers getting closer to the brands. I personally feel that its time to empower the photographers to achieve greater successes in any marketing approach. We are not just merely customers of the brands but an ongoing voice and representative of the cameras with our blogs, support in the photo forums and of course flame wars

Cheers,
Tuck
