I sympathise with Hussein, could only listen and watch but unable to try at the finale because he did not bring a flashlight. Let's not forget to thank the model for stoically enduring the mosquitoe bites to hold still so we could get the slow shutter speed shots.

The forum has been quiet most probably because everyone has been busy shooting. Since Sunday's Ubin shoot, my life cycle has been work-shoot-sleep and repeat for the last few days and probably will resume over the weekend again.

We start at 3 March and now is only 23 May but we have 262 members liao! Of cos this is not enough for sure, we still hope to see more and more members in sgshoot! Although we have 262 members but the Active Members only have 157! where are the rest of 105 members?

The reason I think its quiet could be due of the following reasons:

1. Out of the over 400 members (correct me if the figures are wrong), maybe a small percentage are active.

2. Most of the active sections are on the portraiture and it has its high tide and low tide.

3. When members or guest entered the forum, what they see are forums which last post are few days or weeks ago, so implying not many recent posts (except on portraitures plus one or two at random).

4. Some are maybe scared to post because they are worried that their photos may be criticised e.g, composition not correct, color too dull laa, photographers fault la bla bla bla... where in fact when we look at a photos, most important thing is to know why the photos are taken that way, and the reason for taking in that manner. Knowing that, then we can comment whether its right or wrong.

5. SGShoot still new....and still needs time to achieve the level where other forum has achieved.

6. And....when someone post a picture, not many response, so ended up member give up, dont want to pose anymore....so they enter SGShoot but see see only....

I shoot with both digital camera and film. However, I sometimes shoot with my eyes closed to get what i really hope to get. Then I press the shutter release.

I will be happy if i get exactly what i have in mind. But if i dont, I treat it as part of a process in getting there.

The film layer is at the rectina, the ND filter is my eye lashes and my aperture is my eye lids as i stop down.

Saw your pictures. being holga, it is expected to skew exposure and invite distortions and light leaks. So, still quite new to many of us since we hadnt got a chance to play and appreciate it lor.

For multiple exposures, try not to do that on people for about one month after monday. we all very scarred. If you dun knoe what I mean, pls look at the chinese calendar. I think even the auntie at the lab will say choi...

I believe one should be reminded that this forum is created for members of a photographic community. It is where like minded individuals gel and to exchange a few lines once in a while. It is a place to post pictures or to look for activities to foster closer friendship. It is not a place to collect post count as it makes one silly to think that way.

To benchmark a photographic community by the number of posting in a forum is but a sad mistake. If photographers have so much time to chit chat like in a kopitiam, talking about all kinda news and gossips, then it does speak volume if we are really spending time with our work, family and photography (which may either be our hobby/work).

Haven't we come across professional photography sites (overseas) with barely 300 postings? The members there are full time professionals and some charge over usd20k for a shoot. Do we then condemn those forums as weak? If one does not know what i am talking about, then he/she may still have a long way to go in this journey.

Humility is one aspect in photography which some may overlook.

I once had a good friend who spent a lot of time in a hyper active local forum to exchange ideas and learn. Eventually, he realised many of the members were flame baiting and many were but a bunch of airheads who knew nothing much about exposures or prints. This friend of mine shoots only medium format, printed himself and process them in the digital darkroom. He told me that since he left that forum, he really went leaps and bounds. What he told me was he wasted his time learning from a community that seemed so promising, full of activities. Offended by a few idiots, he left that community and went on his own journey. Now, he has developed his own form of art. He was so grateful he stopped wasting time in a childish platform that he would otherwise never discover the talent within him.

A forum is quiet for many reasons, since we all come from some other forums, it's only natural that cliches have formed, past experiences tell us to be careful when commenting and posting sensitive replies.

What used to be an open and freedom of speech is now contoured by many's fragile thinking and ability to accept constructive criticism. Most will tend to mellow down and not dare to post much, of course, I'm not spared of this as well given my past notoriousity elsewhere(s). Most are too closed with their thinking when replying comments/feedback.

However, groups that have already split up into their own smaller groups need to take note that your mannerisms and actions together with choice of words will make the newer members scared and unable to clique in. It's natural to talk like old buddies, but also, at the same time it creates a niche groupy feeling to new buddies.
