The second weekend of the Night Festival features parties by Zouk, with music from international live acts and Zouk’s resident DJs. Expect an evening of great entertainment ranging from breakdancing to beatboxing, rap performances, live graffiti demos and percussion performances.
Programme Highlights
Zouk’s The Beatnik Picnic is a 2-day party event open to everyone above 16 years of age.
The first day will see headlining act Van She from Australia perform the latest hits from their upcoming electro-dance guitar rock album “V”. Local Zouk jockey Huang will also be spinning a special indie disco heighten to set the mood. There will also be pyrotechnics. Partygoers can also try their hand at bohemian art activities such as silk-screening and body painting, or purchase one-of-a-kind creations by artists like Maki Squarepatch, White Dog Bobby and the Proletariat Poetry Factory.
Fresh!, Zouk’s signature hip-hop event , takes place on the second day of the Beatnik Picnic. A regular fixture on Zouk’s event calendar for the past 8 years, this is the first time Fresh! will take place outside the club. Hosted by London-based Singaporean Masa One, the night’s programming includes turntable and beat-box performances, as well as live breakdance and graffiti art competitions. The festivities culminate at the set of special guest turntable meastro DJ Shortkut from the Unites States.
From 10:30pm to 2:00am on both days

Glow in the Dark at Peranakan Museum

Enjoy a variety of fun family-friendly activities with a Glow in the Dark theme. Children will be able to make their very own mini photo frames, create an original Peranakan-inspired print and participate in a sell-guided treasure hunt at the recently opened Peranakan Museum.
Deliciously Local - National Museum of Singapore
Time: 6.30pm-2am
Looking at recreating the carnival atmosphere of the Pasar Malam, the Deliciously Local features a variety food stalls and games kiosks located on the National Museum of Singapore’s Stamford Green. As the name implies, eat, shop and play at the variety of stalls offering everything from local street food, to one-of-a-kind buys to long lost games of old like tikam-tikam.
Unconference
Time: 6.30-8pm
Some would say the best parts of an arts conference are the breaks, not necessarily the formal programme, when people can chat and network. The Substations goes straight to the fun bit as they continue their Unconference series that started during the Singapore Art Show 2007. Using the speed-dating format, participants have four minutes to have a one-on-one chat about the topic of the night - Why are so many ex-lawyers in the arts?

Baby, Where Are All The Fine Things You Promised Me? Time: 7-11pm
An interactive installation-cum-street performance by New Zealander Stephen Bain. Visitors will see a quaint model of an old school quarter-acre house at first, but will be amazed to discover a man living ship-in-a-bottle style within the tiny 1.5m by 1.5m house. Chat with the actor as he plays music and cooks within his home. If you’re lucky you might even get to share a cup of tea with him!
Four Mics - Jazz

Unwind to the groovy beats of Four Mics - Jazz, a line up of stellar jazz performances at the Singapore Art Museum. Performances include a sulty Latin jazz set, an upbeat pop jazz set and a melancholic blues jazz set.

The Happy Puppetry Company has devoted itself to the preservation of traditional Chinese puppetry culture and is famous for its exquisite puppets and dramatic shows. Directed by leading Taiwanese female puppeteer, Ms Sih-mei Chiang, with her son Chia-tsai Ko and grandsons Shih-hong Ko and Shih-hua Ko, The Happy Puppetry Company will present a show entitled Celebration, backed by an ensemble of traditional musicians.
The Flight of the Night Owl

Under the Flight of the Night Owl programme, there are 2 specially planned activities for the public to participate.
The first are museum tours titled Memories and Secrets. Conducted in English and Mandarin at hourly intervals at the respective museums, guides in period costumes will walk participants through the buildings and share stories about the architecture, history, restoration and secrets of each museum in a fun and interactive way.
The second is a treasure hunt titled Heritage Quest-Treasures of Singapura.
Memories and Secrets is free for students, NSF and senior citizens; other members of the public can take part at a nominal fee.
Registration Fees apply for everyone joining Heritage Quest-Treasures of Singapura.

Under the Banyan Tree
Hairspray (25 July) & Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (26 July), 8-9.45pm
The National Museum’s open air cinema initiative Under the Banyan Tree will be screening 2 classics - the original 1971 film adaptation of the classic Roald Dahl story, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and the 2007 remake of the Broadway classic, Hairspray.
Reform, 8.30pm, 10.30pm, 11.30pm and 12.30am
Perth-based arts group PVI Collective hits the Night Festival with Reform, an outdoor performance work that behaves itself… to the extreme. Armed with an overzealous enthusiasm for current legislation, laws and social standards, PVI’s comic taskforce attempts to implement their own brand of patriotic conformity at the Night Festival.
The audience, turning in via portable FM radios and headsets, can join in their antics as they applaud good behaviour or offer neighbourly advice to any ‘wayward citizens’ at the festival grounds. Registration is required half an hour before each performance.
Bloco Singapore

Bloco Singapura, as the name implies, is a bloco-style street percussion act made up of 100 members selected from various schools, organisations and percussion groups. Led by the Rei Momo (the ceremonial king of the parade), a procession of high-flying performers dance to a pulsating chorus of afro-inspired beats from their bateria percussion ensemble. The percussion and band performance will culminate at the stage on Singapore Management University Campus Green where they will present a world-music inspired set of five songs sung in Yoruba, Portuguese and English.

A 20-member percussionn ensemble will perform a fresh fusion of street percussion with urban hip hop and club grooves.
Light Installation by The Electric Canvas

A Sydney-based lighting effects company The Electric Canvas specialises in large-scale projections on historic buildings. Especially for the Night Festival, they will be transforming the facades of the National Museum and the Singapore Art Museum into elaborate works of art. The installation will extend to 27 July to 3 August, 7.30-11pm.
