Yes, the different is a lot ppl log to CS is because most of them like to visit their Buy and Sell thread. There are really many ppl having their Buy and Sell business there. Of cos when they log in to this thread and they will go to others thread too.

Of we can't have such crowd when we are olny 03 months old, they are about 07 years liao! I really hope by next year our forum not only have more members but also more Active Members. Although we are having 213 members now but Active Members is not much. Let work together to let sgshoot to be more "noisy" and more 'happening"! :cheers: :cheers: :cheers: Post, post, post! A newly start forum definitely be less active as compared to established forums. For a forum which is about 2 mths old and have about 200+ members is quite good. To be an established forum will need time and of course supportive members. :)

I believe this has resulted in generating, as you pointed out, a lot more activity. There have been shoots every day this week and on a couple of occasions, an outdoor and studio shoot running concurrently on the same day. However, for me more important than just the number is the variety and quality of the shoots. One can join shoots that are not available through the other forum. This week, I have done 1 outdoor costumed model shoots, a costumed theme studio shoot, an outdoor night model shoot, a lingerie shoot and 3 other studio shoots. Yea, inspite of a much smaller (but gradually developing) membership, this is the happening place.:cheer:

Yup as Joanne has mentioned, we are just starting out and the members database is small. However, we do not stop there! Our mods and admins are all working to get more people to join us! You can too play an important role in getting your friends to join! :)

When we first started this forum, we had a vision in mind. We agreed that some other forums are too revenue oriented and has lost focus of photography. Therefore, we commit ourselves to maintain this forum the way it is now, friendly for advice, no spamming, no flaming, etc. Would you rather have a forum with many members but end up in flaming wars or would you rather come to a smaller forum and learn something (photography or others)? IMO, since when did photography become flaming people and criticising/thumbing-down images? There's NO BEST PHOTO, isn't it? C'mon, photography is an art, not an exam!

Personally I am not the least interested in making comparisons. There are always good and bad features in any website. How can it not be? What characterises a website is the nature of its members, and it is clear that as people, we all have our own strengths and weaknesses. There is no perfect website. If I see one, I will certainly not join it, because by joining this perfect website, I make it imperfect.

But the website must have well defined goals. It must inculcate an environment where members must not be afraid to participate. I look at the members list, and saw many members who have not yet contributed any posts.

I do understand that there good reasons why these silent members have not posted. There are all types, from experienced members to pure newbies. From the eloquent to those who may not be good in expressing. To me, these differences do not matter, if the basic attitude is to share in a non-judgmental environment.

What matters is that comments are given with sincerity with the objective of helping another.

To the newbies, do not worry. Just write - anything. If you do not, how can others share their experiences with you? And I think the admin and moderators should make sure that there are no bullying. The life of a family does not evolve just around the parents, but with all in it, children, relatives, and friends. So, help to develop this website by giving "life".

To the experienced, I say share without reservation. I read in another forum that newbies should not expect "oldies" to share things freely, because the "oldies" after spending hard work, failures and money, will not like to give out "secrets". To this, I say "bull"!

The strength of an image is the product of a person's personal make-up. A student can learn the techniques, but the image carved out can only be as good as the person himself. I do not refer to the moral person, but in what makes for his esthetics, life experiences, influences, joy, pain, etc.

So, "oldies" fear not that the student will have your secrets. If the student does not progress with techniques, his work will at best, only be derivative.

What I had written refers to the sharing community.

There are other things of course, such as selling and buying. And courses and workshops. To the newbies I say this. And I am not trying to promote SLCC, but a general advice. Assistance from the website is at best sporadic and fragmentary. There is nothing like a concentrated period of time with like minded people to learn from, and with. On foundations, as well as "specialised" genres and techniques. If you can afford these, they can shorten your learning curve and provide stimuli.
