Hi everybody! I am planning to buy a EOS XXD (which implies the 50D unless canon comes up with 60D suddenly) then I heard about the to-be released 500D.

I was thinking: since the specifications of the 50D and 500D are so similar, do you think the prize of 50D will drop when the 500D takes its first step into Canon's retail outlets?

If you think the prize will drop, how dramatically do you think it will drop? The recommended retail price now is Around $1900(body only).

If you don't think the introduction of the 500D into the market will affect the retail price of 50D, why?

The prices of camera bodies are always dropping. 50D and 500D are targeted for different market segments. The price for 50D body is about $1.6k+ w gst (as of 1st april 2009). I don't think 50D will drop that much with the introduction of 500D. It will probably drop more when 60D arrives. (to clear stock).

What's the price are you looking for 50D?

When do you think 60D will arrive?

I have no idea.
50D was announced in October 2008. Based on the 18th month cycle, probably feb 2010.

I think the price for 50D will drop only when 60D is available on the market. But if you're looking for real good deal, can buy 2nd hand 50D when 60D comes in. I'm using 450D, will definitely upgrade to XXD in the future. The feel is so much different, epecially the size of the view finder. Actually makes a lot of difference. I chose 450D over 50D because of the weight. But now that my lens actually weigh more than my camera, it doesn't matter anymore.

One thing to note is that the bodies and models are often seggregated by serial number designs.

xxxD will not affect xxD and xD and xxxxD etc, they are of independent market and reach. Though they may be similar in features but it's often built to have that difference enough to reach for it's own market.
