which camera to buy

hello im totally new to photography can i know which camera should i get ? this (canon powershot G10 or the nikon Dslr40 or canon EOS 1000D Kit (EFS 18-55) ) or which camera u guys recommend?buget is 1000

There are plenty of choices for a $1,000 budget. You can get a brand new D40X or a pre-owned D50, D60, D70, D80, D200 and save the remaining money for a walkabout lens. For Canon system, you can get a pre-owned EOS40D. I prefer to get a cheaper body and invest more money on a good walkabout lens.

But, if you prefer compact cameras, then get the Panasonic LX3 or G10.

i'd agree with getting pre-owned body to start with until TS knows what he wants. getting lenses are more important than body.

lol...i thought about the f200exr then decided to skip it cos i felt it wasnt much better than my f30 :rofl:

To each his own. My pre-owned F31fd is good enough for me. If I need to buy another compact, it would be the LX3 even though the colour is a bit artificial compared to the F31fd and F200EXR, as I prefer a fast lens. I don't always carry a tripod with me wherever I go and don't like to bump up the ISO when using compact cameras, you see? G10 is also very good, image quality under good lighting is tack sharp and image stabiliser is very effective, but it is expensive.
