If you want to take pictures that sell very well - particularly in stock photography portfolios - you need to be taking pictures with people in them. People add variety, interest, and unique perspectives to pictures. Even if you take a picture of something others have taken pictures of millions of times before, if yours has people in it, it will be unique.

Many hobby photographers and photography enthusiasts who are just starting to learn how to take great pictures often wonder how more professional photographers can get such great, extreme closeup photos of things like flower petals, bees, and other insects. It's really quite easy once you learn about the technique, but it does take some trial and error, and your results will vary a bit depending on the kind of camera you're using.

Many hobby photographers have what's referred to as a point and shoot camera. These types of cameras are usually quite small and lightweight, allow you to view the picture on a digital screen instead of looking through the viewfinder, and do not have complicated accessories like interchangable lenses. A point and shoot camera is an excellent type of digital camera for beginners to start with, and they make fantastic gifts too. These days they can be purchased for as little as $100 in some cases, and prices range upwards from there to around $500. The difference in pricing usually indicates the quality of the camera, how many features it might have, and how big the pictures turn out too.

When you sell a photograph or rather when your agency sells your photograph the buyer does not actually buy the physical photo, but rather a license to reproduce it. Copyright is the right of the author (you the photographer) to reproduce the photo or license it as you see fit as long as you do not infringe the rights of the people in the photo. In order to sell a photo for commercial purposes: advertising, promotions, packaging, or anything that if produced for the attainment of commercial interest, you will need a model release for anyone appearing in you photo, regardless if they are recognizable or not.

Canon's Lens lineup may be a little daunting for any new SLR or DSLR camera owner. The primary reason for this is probably the fact that Canon offers more than 60 interchangeable lenses for its series of SLR and DSLR cameras. This lens line-up includes Prime Lenses, Zoom Lenses, Tilt & Shift Lenses, Macro Lenses, Wide Lenses and Telephoto Lenses and Super Telephoto Lenses. Although Canon manufactures many types of lenses, it's EF Lenses are the most popular as these lenses with the EF mount fit on all of Canon's SLR and DSLR cameras. In addition to this, Canon also manufactures the EF-S lens lineup that fits on Canon's range of consumer cameras with APS-C CMOS sensors such as the Rebel series. The EF-S lenses can only be used on the APS-C cameras, but these cameras can also use the normal EF Lenses.
