Not that it matters as much as you may reckon, but the D90 SLR has a minuscule (12.3MP) image sensor than the marginally less expensive EOS Rebel T1i (15.1MP). The Diana came about in the early 1960's: a plastic camera with a square mask to create 4 x 4cm square images on 120 film. Because it was essentially as simple a camera as one could make -- it was plastic, prone to light leaks, and inexpensive -- it was considered a "toy" camera. Originating in Hong Kong and mostly given away at public entertainment events such as fairs and carnivals, these cameras have since ended up all over the world and continue to have a cult following.

The aperture is the size of the opening in a lens that determines how much light reaches the sensor (digital) or film (manual). Changing the size of the lens aperture changes how the scene is captured in a photograph. Look on the barrel or the front of the lens on your camera to find the maximum aperture. A lens aperture is usually listed as an f-number, meaning the ratio of focal length to the diameter of the aperture. Lower numbers mean more light is getting in and higher numbers mean less light is getting in. For zoom lenses, an aperture range is provided such as 1:4-5:6.

I have been involved in photography in some way or another most of my life. My first encounter with a camera came at the early age of six while on holiday with my parents in Weymouth in the 1950's. A Digital Camera, popularly known as a DigiCam, is a camera which stores the photos clicked, in a digital form rather than recording them on film. The digital camera is one of the most extraordinary examples of this move because it is so truly diverse from its forerunner. Once a picture has been taken, it can be downloaded to a computer, and then overdone with a graphics program and printed. The huge benefit of digital cameras is that creating photos is both cheap and quick because there is no film processing.

The Canon Rebel T1i digital SLR is Canons latest big brother in it's Rebel lineup, and is definitely one worthy of consideration. It has to be one of the better (albiet more expensive) entry level SLR cameras on the market today. Not that it makes as much a difference as you may imagine, but the D90 SLR has a smallish (12.3MP) image sensor than the more affordable Canon Rebel t1i digital SLR (15.1MP). If one was only to consider the obvious specifications, it would be a no brainer to select the Rebel T1i 15.1MP over the Nikon D90 DX.

Film was on the edge of the cliff that is photography. Digital was everywhere, photography magazines all added "digital" in there titles and countless books with "how to's" that are super-seeded before they hit the shelves are published. It became almost impossible to get a standard canister of 35mm developed in a high street store and all film users who refused to convert were made to feel like dinosaurs in a digital ice age. So many years on, why is it that film is still thriving, who are these crazy people still using it and what possible interest could they have in preserving a dying medium.

English photographer Henry Peach Robinson or H.P. Robinson (1830-1901) was a pioneer of 'Pictorialist Photography,' especially 'Combination Printing.' Pictorialists believed that 'Art Photography' needed to emulate the paintings of everyday life in such a way to etch it in time and remove from it the mundane of the photograph. Among the methods used for the same were soft focus, special filters, lens coatings, heavy manipulation in the darkroom, and exotic printing processes. These processes together gave an eerie and an unreal feeling of being etched in space and time to the fluid and everyday 'Modern Photography.' Henry Robinson was called "the King of photographic picture making," proving the pinnacle of his competence as a photographer.
