WAH I see I kena organised liao!
Anyway Oct 24 is fine with me, but Joo Chiat is more interesting at night and I wonder how many are able to go out on Saturday night with their Japanese Fuji wives?
If not please suggest alternative dates. Or we shoot in evening till after sunset still ok ;-)
Best place to meet would be Joo Chiat Complex, I am sure there is McDonalds or some other landmark there, let me check out. Right outside the complex the colour and FUN starts liao.
Eg this Hotel:

There is no McDonald's at Joo Chiat Complex. However, we can meet at the food court/coffeeshop next to Haig Road Food Center/Market.
By the way, Jacob will not be joining us this round as he has work commitments.

Lately went out with mrs to look for new natural spots for photography.
This Labrodor Park is very ideal location for sunset photography with lovely coast line and beautiful horizon.

Why don't we all rent bicycles and we cycle to the location.

The nearest place to rent bicycle is east coast, but around that area I am not very sure. I don't mind taking at least 4 fellow Kakis along on my ride and I think Nov is alright for the outing.

Vice versa, we could rent a MPV for a few hours and split the cost among those of us who don't drive.

You can find the best Puttu Piring in Singapore at this coffeeshop.
Always long queue... It is not uncommon for the customers to wait 20 to 30 minutes for their turn to order.

But it is worth the long wait and sore feet...

The filling has a generous amount of gula melaka (palm sugar) which is not-too-sweet and of good quality. The steamed rice cakes are melt-in-your-mouth soft. They add a big scoop of freshly grated coconut with bits of pandan leaves. Only $1 for a packet of 3 rice cakes.

Alamak! My tummy so big ah :(
Anyway, about the putu piring... it is not just the long queue, but the number of packets each queuer buys... yesterday the four people in front of me bought 17 packets, plus there was a fifth special customer no need queue just potong jalan and the putu piring lady say sorry and mumble something to the queuer in front of me, and he gets one packet without queueing.... So even short queue wait long time :(

Tonight will the 'real' test for our kung fu and our Fujifilm cameras.
Here is why:
From low light to very high contrast scenes
High ISO
A concoction of color temperature within a scene
A need for fast shooting
And of course, the photographer's ability to isolate interesting subject(s) from a busy scene

OK F.U.N. folks, since I am supposed to be the Joo Chiat guide for today's outing, must be kiasu and post my images first.

Everything with Fries at 458 Joo Chiat Road was the place we had dinner yesterday. This simple yet cosy diner, as highlighted by Richard and further by me, is place to be with best friends and/or whole family.
The food is really good. Both Richard and I had Lamb Burger meal served with our choice of fries, and Caesar Salad or Coleslaw. Soon Hoe had the Cheese Burger meal. For side dish, I ordered Skinny Wings (halfed chicken wings deep fried in garlic and herb batter). Richard ordered the One Egg Soup.
Overall, we are very pleased with the food and service here. All ingredients, including the burger buns, are made fresh daily in their kitchen. Nothing is 'off-the-shelves'. The bun is fragrant, soft with a hint of sweetness. The grilled to perfection meat petty is very juicy and melt-in-mouth. Fries are crispy on the outside, soft and moist inside, yet not at all greasy. Seasoning is not too heavy. Coleslaw is fresh, creamy and crunchy.
The young waitstaff is very polite. One of the waitresses even showed much interest in our photography outing. The setting is casual, lively and witty even. The crowd are mainly Generation Y and late teens. All three of us did feel a bit 'old'; three 'uncles' sitting among groups of youngster.
With combination of good food and good service..... how about the damage done to our wallets then? Frankly..... not much. Prices on the menu span from S$2.00 to S$13.90. The Lamb Burger meal I had cost S$9.90, the Skinny Wings is S$5.00 (portion enough to satisfy three grown men). Richard's One Egg Soup is S$3.90. Soon Hoe's Cheese Burger meal costs S$9.90. Don't forget to add plus-plus to the final bill.
Do visit them at www.everythingwithfries.com.
F.U.N. Food Score: 2.5 out of 3 'Eat'.
Reasons for deducting 0.5 points: Menu needs more details, should have a hand washing basin OUTSIDE the restroom (long wait when somebody is inside) and the sitting arrangement a bit uncomfortable for a super-size bloke like me.

Your lamb burger looks more delicious than mine :(
Are you sure we ate at the same restaurant and shot with the same Fuji camera? Maybe yours got F31D poison?
