D90: 18-105mm lens. Cannot auto focus by itself?

Really noobs..

There is a couples of issues I face:

1) The focus ring of the lens does not move by itself during auto focus? is this something different from canon when canon lens does move by itself during auto focus.

2) not sure if I attached the lens properly but after I take out and put back the lens, the auto focus work but still the focus ring does not move by itself. Is this normal?

Any D90 users to advice?

nikon afs lenses' "focusing ring" dun move when AF. normal as it moves internally only during autofocusing.

try this. press the shutter half way, the camera focused, image in viewfinder sharp focused. stop pressing the shutter button and then u turn the focusing ring while looking into the view finder. try it and you'll understand.
