I am starting this as a separate thread as I feel it is an interesting topic that deserves to be on its own, rather than an OT at the post about Da:ns Festival outing. (http://www.sgshoot.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6280)

Basically, I had stopped using HyperUtility ever since I bought Lightroom more than a year ago, because I found Lightroom to be so much more user friendly and I thought the image quality was pretty good. At least it was much better than using the Adobe Raw Converter in my Photoshop CS2, which was quite bad.

But then KopiOKaya showed some examples of how big the difference is, in the Da:ns Festival thread, so that got me to re-discover the Fuji HyperUtilty (which I have decided to call "Fuji Utility Conversion Kit").

Here are two (oops! three, will explain the third later) pixs for comparison, where the difference is still quite clear although not as dramatic as the examples showed by KopiOKaya. I wanted to see how they compare without brilliant colours.

Firstly, can you tell which is which? I am sure KopiOKaya can but what of the rest?

Secondly, which version do you prefer?

I would prefer the 2nd and 3rd picture, the first picture tends to have more cast of magenta and cyan on the skin tone and overall slightly on the purple bend.

My choice will be the 2nd picture in terms of colour skin tone for this Indian lady and the costume jewellery.

A very good expression on her face with the side highlights, brings out a framed dramatic shot.

I am sure KopiOKaya can...

Let me try my luck here...

The first image is definitely converted with Lightroom; no doubt about it. The second image is clearly converted with HyperUtility. The third image is trickier.... It has slight cyan tint. BUT, judging from the noise level, it could be just HyperUtility and some minor adjustment.

Like Andy, I prefer the 2nd image. Reason being I like the warmer skin tone which shows more of the adrenaline rush to her face. And the display of hot-blooded passion in her dance.

... where the difference is still quite clear although not as dramatic as the examples showed by KopiOKaya.

The reason my example are more dramatic because I don't use 'Camera Setting'. I set mine to 'Custom Setting' and use the appropriate values.

More examples taken from last week's Da:ns Festival. I titled this image - 'Mona Lisa of the Philippines'.

RAF converted with Fujifilm HyperUtility HS-V3, a.k.a. "Fuji Utility Conversion Kit"

Still the Fuji software wins over here, this asian Mona Lisa facial skin tone looks more towards asian with a slight yellow tone.

The Lightroom shock me with a tart too reddish and her face lacks middle tone details.

We have got an answer finally!

This clearly explains it... Fujifilm is Japanese, thus looks Asian skin tone. Adobe Lightroom is American, thus looks 'Ang Moh' skin tone.

This comparison has never ended since that time in 'the other forum'. Bluffname wanted to know if there are big differences between these two softwares. In the past, I told him to process his RAF images using HyperUtility but he preferred Lightroom. Recently, he spotted some differences in his images from mine (despite using same camera and lens, shot from the same venue, and most probably using same settings) and would like to give HyperUtility another try.

Yes, a review will be great for F.U.N.
