I got myself a Mint Nikon 18-70 for $160... It replace my 17-55.. As wat kopi had said... Its a cheap but sharp lens... If u dont need a F2.8 this is definite the lens to get...:coolnod:

Thanks to Richard and Kopi man for this recommendation ...

Will try to post some photos later...:victory:

I tested the 18-70 against the S$950 Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di-II VC (with built-in motor and vibration control) at OP yesterday. The result is obvious. The 18-70 is much sharper and less distortion at f3.5 (both lenses set at f3.5) compared to Tamron. Colors from the Nikon are more 'solid' too, especially the reds. The Tamron has cooler hues which makes skin tones look a bit blue.

I smsed Richard my findings immediately. I told him I will not buy this new Tamron lens even if it costs only S$300.

For those who are looking for a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 lens, do consider the older non-VC version. It is sharper, focuses faster, smaller, lighter and cheaper.

Today very nice sky, hope it stays that way for this saturday's Nostalgia (although dull sky might actually feel more "nostalgic" ha ha!).

Hey at the rate you are going looks like all or most FUN members will have the same standard equipment - 18-70 for street shots and 70-300 for Topeng shots. Other, poison lenses optional.

He should buy the Tokina 11-16 as well. That's one of the 'must-have' lens for all F.U.N. members.

He was showing it off during our HortPark outing. His is all gaffer-taped, so cannot see brand and model.

No doubt the Tokina 11-16 has limited zoom range, but it is better-built and its distortion is easier to correct in Photoshop compared to Sigma's.
